Sometimes the ways we learned to cope earlier in life continue to affect us long after we’re out of those situations. You may struggle with anxiety, relationships, self-worth, food or body image, or find yourself repeating patterns you understand but still don’t know how to change. I specialize in eating disorders, body image concerns, and complex trauma (C-PTSD), particularly the lasting effects of childhood and difficult family relationships. I help adults understand how earlier experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, cope with emotions, and connect with others. My background includes working in residential and outpatient treatment settings, with extensive training in eating disorders, trauma, family systems, and relational healing. I am EMDR trained and a certified Relationship Recovery Process (RRP) therapist. I integrate attachment and somatic work, EMDR, parts work, reparenting, mindfulness, and practical coping skills based on what feels most helpful for you. I also offer Relationship Recovery Process (RRP) groups for adults healing from childhood and relational trauma. RRP goes beyond simply understanding your past. Through reparenting and connection with other safe people, you can begin experiencing healthier ways of relating to yourself and to others.

Getting to know Melissa Mark

Sometimes the ways we learned to cope earlier in life continue to affect us long after we’re out of those situations. I integrate attachment and somatic work, EMDR, parts work, reparenting, mindfulness, and practical coping skills based on what feels most helpful for you. What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is warm, compassionate, and trauma informed. I don’t believe in simply treating symptoms or telling you what you “should” do differently. Instead, we work together to understand the patterns underneath them, including the ways you may have learned to people-please, shut down, become highly self-critical, disconnect from your needs, or use food and body behaviors to cope. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. My goal is to provide a space where you can feel understood without judgment, make sense of the patterns that have been holding you back, and begin creating relationships and a life that feel more connected to who you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe feeling safe, understood, seen, and heard is an important part of healing, so we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready for. Depending on what you need, we may talk through current challenges, explore past experiences, learn ways to manage difficult emotions, or use approaches such as EMDR, RRP, somatic work, and reparenting. Together, we’ll gently explore what you’re struggling with, understand patterns that may be rooted in past experiences, and work toward greater connection with yourself and others.
