Hi there, I'm Melissa! This first step is often the hardest, so congrats on being brave and showing up today—choosing to participate in your healing and not relying on default settings any longer. My focus I work with both developmental and adult-onset trauma. I see people in their teens struggling with relationships, anxiety, stress, and loss, up to those in their 90s. I work with first responders and those impacted by generational and vicarious trauma. My approach I believe in the wisdom of your body and your innate ability to move towards healing. Trauma usually includes feeling powerless, responsible, and alone. That energy in your body is telling you something, and I'm thankful you're ready to stop fighting it and start listening to it. My communication style Don't feel like you need to talk about something you're not ready to discuss. When you feel comfortable sharing, I listen for pain points to explore, loud parts of you to get curious about, and what stories you're telling yourself. Sometimes we take a break from talking and let your body find where emotions and trauma reside. My journey to mental healthcare I was a teacher before getting drawn into the therapy world. I happened upon an organization specializing in trauma, attachment, and equine-assisted psychotherapy, and everything changed—I was hooked! I worked at a non-profit treating sexual assault and domestic violence survivors. My goals for you Sometimes, just allowing yourself the space to imagine what could change, what needs to change, and what change might look like, can be healing. Setting an intention is half the battle. Then I walk alongside you on your journey, being an empathic witness to your experience, guiding you through methods I think might help. Our first session First sessions are always anxiety-provoking—normal. We'll take a huge breath together and tune in, noticing what we're both feeling in that moment, allow it, and then go from there.
