Getting to know Melissa Paul

I am licensed in Colorado with 10 years of professional work experience. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You are the expert in your story, and my aim is to support you with compassion, curiosity, and clinical skill. Whether we’re addressing past trauma, relationship issues, or everyday stress, my focus is on helping you reconnect with your inner strength and move toward the life you want to live. I take a collaborative, client-centered approach to therapy. My role is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I believe that healing happens when the mind, body, and spirit are aligned, and I often integrate cognitive-behavioral strategies with mindfulness and trauma-informed care to support this process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll focus on your unique story—including relevant personal, relational, and transgenerational history—to begin identifying what you hope to change, strengthen, and heal. We’ll explore patterns, symptoms, and life experiences that have shaped your current challenges, as well as the strengths that have sustained you. A typical session may involve processing current concerns, exploring deeper emotional patterns, or practicing structured strategies. I use a trauma-informed, integrative approach that includes CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns, alongside EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), somatic awareness, and mindfulness-based practices to support nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and deeper self-awareness. While I do not prescribe medication, I can help monitor symptoms, collaborate with your prescriber if applicable, and provide referrals if medication becomes an appropriate part of your care. My goal is to provide a compassionate, grounded space where therapy unfolds at a pace that feels safe and collaborative. Whether we’re working through trauma, anxiety, grief, or relationship challenges, I’m here to support your journey toward greater wholeness—mind, body, and spirit.
