Melissa Vine, LMHC

Psychotherapist
IA
If you are a teen/adult female who is feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I’m here to support you. Perhaps you have tried sharing with others and it made you feel worse or maybe you are not sure if you want to share about your personal life with others. Maybe you want to process experiences like abuse, sexual harassment/assault, disengaged parents or difficult family dynamics, an abusive boss, religious trauma, or something that just makes you feel ashamed. My approach is influenced by sociologist Brene Brown and how her research on shame intersects with dialectical behavior therapy. Clients who want to understand the "why" behind their thinking, emotions, and decisions seem to be most compatible with my approach to therapy. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a crisis responder and policy advocate for victims of dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. I've been a small business owner and a nonprofit director for women coming out of homelessness where I became passionate about criminal justice reform. I have a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies, a master's degree in Professional Counseling, and a Juris Doctorate (JD) from Drake Law School. I believe that your best days are ahead of you, and I would be honored to support you in moving toward them.
