Melissa Weidendorf, LPCC

Psychotherapist
MN
Hi there, I'm Melissa! My name is Melissa Weidendorf, and I hold an LPCC as well as a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I specialize in treating trauma and stress-related mental health concerns for adults. I work extensively with people in the queer community because this is my community, too. My approach is to create a container for people to explore their own "stuff." My approach I use a variety of methods and work through a trauma lens that is holistic and relationally focused. EMDR trained, I also incorporate IFS, CBT, and DBT, exploring your relationship to the food you eat, the information you take in, and how you see your connectedness to the earth and world around you. Diagnosis is often a distraction. My focus I work with adults who are struggling with life, focusing less on "conditions" and more on the human being sitting in front of me. Queer folk are my people. My communication style I strive to create a space where people can unpack what they are carrying—sometimes without realizing it—and explore how that may show up in their relationships, culture and community, or with food, substances, and the earth. My journey to mental healthcare I became a therapist to be a different kind of therapist. As a kid, I was profoundly impacted by the mental health system in ways that continue to shape who I am today. Because of this, I always want to show up authentically for people, but more importantly, in ways that move beyond diagnosis and our culture’s fascination with labels and boxes. My goals for you Goal setting is driven by clients. My first session with you I ask a lot of questions in the first sessions to help me get to know you and identify areas we might explore together.
