Melody Culhane, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Melody! My name is Melody Culhane and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I have several years of experience in treating a variety of symptoms impacting individuals including anxiety, depression, PTSD, post-partum depression, and more. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, UCSD: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), EMDR (Level II), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and The Gottman Method. My approach I take a strengths-based, holistic approach. With telehealth, I find that I most often employ interventions that focus on the cognitive behavioral model while addressing individual needs. Our perception of our experience alters how we evaluate our reality and accept change. Being able to challenge automatic thoughts and recognize triggers from past experiences enables us to move forward and enjoy our lives. My focus I work with adults who are often trying to cope with anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship struggles, and job stress. My communication style I believe that therapy is a place to safely explore and develop skills to move forward. I focus on having a friendly, calm, non-judgmental, affirming communication style. My journey to therapy I have always enjoyed helping others and found that people have ease speaking with me. I started working in the mental health field while studying psychology in college. I chose to become a therapist while serving as a program manager at an outpatient case management program specializing in individuals with severe, chronic mental illness and co-occurring disorders. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings including case management, outpatient therapy programs, private practice, and hospitals. My goals for you Ultimately the goal I have for you is determined based on why you chose to come to therapy. Some individuals desire short-term, solution-focused goals to address immediate problems and while others view therapy as a journey to explore longstanding.
