Getting to know Melody Stauffer

Melody Stauffer, LCPC is a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois who has counseled children, teens, and adults for over 10 years. She graduated from Judson University with a bachelor’s in psychology. She then graduated from Argosy University in 2013 with a Master of Arts in Community Counseling. Her areas of expertise include: depression, anxiety, trauma, parenting, children/adolescents, communication issues, stress management, grief & loss, self-esteem issues, self-harm, substance abuse, psychosis, and crisis stabilization. Melody recognizes each client has their own story to tell and specific wounds to heal and will let her clients lead the way on their mental health journey. Melody is also trained in EMDR therapy that is helpful with patients with trauma, old or new.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As your therapist, my goal is to create a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered. I believe every person has a unique story, and I honor that by allowing you to take the lead in your healing journey. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, so I work collaboratively with you to find the approaches and pace that feel right for you. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting challenges, or just feeling overwhelmed by life, I’ll walk alongside you with empathy and encouragement. I also use EMDR therapy when appropriate, especially for processing past or recent trauma. My hope is that through our work together, you’ll gain tools, insights, and confidence to move forward in a healthier, more fulfilling way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you—your story, your goals, and what brought you to therapy. In our first few sessions, we’ll talk about your current challenges, your history, and what you hope to achieve through counseling. This helps me better understand how to support you and tailor our work to your needs. I take a collaborative and client-centered approach, which means you set the pace and direction. I may offer tools, strategies, or insights along the way, but ultimately, this is your journey. Depending on your needs, I may draw from different therapeutic approaches such as cognitive-behavioral techniques, trauma-informed care, or EMDR therapy, especially when working through past or recent trauma. Throughout our time together, I strive to create a space that feels safe, encouraging, and nonjudgmental—where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, build resilience, and discover new ways of coping and growing.

I just met Melody and we just started the process. But so far, I haven't been this pleased compared to my last therapists. I'm getting fond of her!
Melody was transparent from the beginning in who she is. She helped me to gain a deeper understanding of the benefits of mindfulness and taught me how to use mindfulness as a tool to improve my sense of happiness. Such a great therapist!
