Psychotherapist
IL
Thank you for choosing me, Mercedes P. Cisneros Watson, MA, LCPC, and Path for your counseling needs. I, “Mercedes,” a native of Chicago, am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois since 1998. My clinical counseling experience spans over 30 years. I earned my Bachelor’s from the University of Illinois, Chicago, and hold a Master’s in Family and Community Counseling and a Certificate in Adult Education from Northeastern University. My approach I draw from therapeutic orientations such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Cultural Awareness Interventions, Interpersonal Counseling, Mindfulness-based Counseling, Systemic Interventions, and Psycho-education. Therapy is not the same for everyone; each person is unique. As I get to know clients’ needs, I adapt to find an approach best suited to inspire growth, change, and knowledge for healthy living. My focus My clinical interests include adult women’s and men’s life issues such as intergenerational trauma, grief/loss, divorce, abusive relationships, mood disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety), gender dysphoria, and personality disorders. I also have experience with substance abuse. While I do not treat substance abuse directly, working for Path has given me familiarity with substance use patterns, and I provide psycho-education to help redirect and prevent deterioration. This population includes college students and adults struggling with adjustment at various life stages. My communication style I welcome patients and thank them for the privilege of journeying together—to grow and learn, as I learn much from clients. I share necessary logistical information, review what I might have already seen, and acknowledge their courage to meet a stranger and share personal information.
