Mercedes Harrison, LMHC

Psychotherapist
FL
I specialize in working with high-achieving high school students, college students, and adults who are often seen as capable, driven, and full of potential — but underneath, feel overwhelmed by pressure, anxiety, perfectionism, or fear of falling short. If you're used to pushing yourself hard, overthinking every decision, or feeling like you're never quite "enough," you're not alone — and therapy can help. My approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help you better understand your patterns while building on your strengths. Together, we’ll work to quiet anxious thoughts, reduce self-doubt, and take practical steps towards the life you want — one that feels aligned and meaningful, not just productive. Whether you're navigating academic stress, big life choices, or personal growth, I offer a space where you can reflect, gain clarity, and move forward with more confidence and intention.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often tell me they appreciate that therapy with me feels both structured and supportive. I’m collaborative, warm, and goal-oriented — which means I’ll meet you where you are emotionally, but also help you move forward with clarity and purpose. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and highlight the progress you’re already making (even if you don’t see it yet). We’ll explore what’s keeping you stuck, but we’ll also stay focused on your values, strengths, and what change could actually look like in your day-to-day life. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling heard, grounded, and equipped with insight or tools you can use — not just in the moment, but for the long run.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, the focus is on you—your story, your needs, and what’s bringing you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand what you’re experiencing and what you hope to get out of our work together. You’re welcome to share at your own pace, and there’s no pressure to open up all at once. That said, the more you’re able to share over time, the more it can help us tailor the process to your goals and needs. My priority is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can start feeling heard, grounded, and truly supported from the very beginning.
