Hello, I'm Mercedes. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a master's degree in counseling from Lindenwood University and 19 years of experience in the mental health field. My journey began as a psychiatric therapist in an acute care hospital, where I worked closely with individuals in crisis. This experience laid the foundation for my deep understanding of mental health challenges and the importance of compassionate care.
Over the years, I transitioned to case management, supporting persons with developmental disabilities. This role allowed me to advocate for individuals and ensure they received the services they needed. Eventually, I moved into provider relations, where I worked tirelessly to improve the quality of services provided by healthcare professionals. It was during this time that I realized the common thread in all my roles: my genuine interest in people's lives and my dedication to helping them find resolutions.
As an LPC, I have supported individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide, self-harm, grief, anger, life transitions, crisis care, brief solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, school difficulties, self-esteem, and relationship issues. I firmly believe that each person is unique and deserves a tailored approach to therapy. As I often say, "One of the most valuable lessons I learned throughout my career is that in order to be most effective in treatment, each person has to be treated as an individual. Cookie-cutter therapy produces minimal results."
