Getting to know Merissa Goolsarran

As a therapist with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Central California, I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where collaboration and empowerment can be achieved. My mission is to listen, draw upon your strengths, and provide insightful support along the way. My areas of specialty include working with those experiencing anxiety, major life changes, relationship challenges, difficulty concentrating, chronic medical diagnoses, isolation, and identity concerns. I also specialize in supporting clients of Indo-Caribbean (West Indian) heritage and/or first- and second-generation immigrants. During our first session, you can expect an easy-going conversation to build a strong therapeutic alliance. Currently, I practice entirely via telehealth, offering the flexibility to connect conveniently and safely. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING: Services are provided to clients interested in therapy on a short-term (one to three months) or long-term basis. For requests related to administrative services such as disability certification, administrative letters, or special accommodations (including Emotional Support Animal letters) connected to a psychological condition, please seek another mental health provider. This policy allows me to focus on building a therapeutic alliance and dedicating resources to clinical services rather than administrative tasks. Certain administrative services may be considered for long-term clients on a case-by-case basis but cannot be guaranteed.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Client can expect suggestions or tips to be given during most sessions to provide guidance towards those goals. Some sessions may focus on processing situations, but much of the progress from therapy can come from trying new techniques or unlearning old habits.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Merissa is one of the best therapists that I've had in the 30+ years that I've been seeing therapists. She arrives at appts on time, listens without interrupting, client-centered, honest, warm, kind, upholds client's autonomy, and honest. She is a rarity in the brown community and I wish there were more like her. It's clear that being a therapist is her calling.
I am really enjoying my sessions with Merissa. I like the way she makes me feel seen and heard. She does a wonderful job at listening and responding.
