Merrill Friedman, LCMHC

Merrill Friedman, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NH
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I have trained in various treatment modalities, but I am best known for a safe trusting environment for clients to explore the thoughts feelings, and experiences that contribute to their struggles. Additionally, I like to remind clients of their many strengths, which they might tend to overlook. My approach I use an eclectic approach that allows for flexibility with modalities identified as useful for symptoms and issues. Some of these modalities might include CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT skills (dialectical behavioral therapy), mindfulness and meditation, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused treatment. My focus I work with an adult population (18 years and older). Most of my clients are dealing with life stressors including internal struggles with self-esteem, interpersonal issues, grief, life transitions, difficult histories that impact current functioning, and/or medical issues that contribute to depression and anxiety. Some clients are seeking help dealing with anxiety related to the political and environmental issues we are facing in our world today. Any of these, or a combination of these stressors can trigger symptoms of depression, anxiety, health issues, or past trauma that interrupt your ability to thrive and tax your ability to be resilient. My communication style I have a collaborative style with my clients that includes open discussion, humor, and an effort to encourage a nonjudgmental, curious view of one's own internal experience. Most clients report feeling comfortable and safe when working with me. My journey to mental healthcare I have always wanted to help others from the time I was a child and brought home lost animals to when I became a massage therapist and heard the complicated stories of people's lives. It was during this work that I decided to learn how to help people more directly with their psychological struggles and I became a psychotherapist.
