Getting to know Michael Avila

I have worked with adult and teen patients throughout NYC & NJ for about 20yrs. I am a firm believer in the "strength-based approach" meaning all individuals have the inherit ability to overcome & achieve with the right support. I started Bright Minds Therapy LLC with mission to help each induvial reach their peak. As in the science of Yoga, it is understood that all trees are rising the highest they possibly can towards the sun, and that is our goal for each client.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that I am honest, very open & sincere about helping each client heal & empower themselves. Life can be complicated, so I like to make the process simple and clean. However, I want my clients to truly grow, therefore the work has to be done. Most growth is not done during therapy, but what each individual does outside of therapy. It is your journey, and healing will require courage and trust.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session we will go through some background information & it is important to understand family history & what patterns or dynamics are present. You will have a choice of video call or phone call depending on your liking and perhaps an option to meet in person if you are local. As discussed with all my patients, this is your story, therefore if there are presenting issues you would like to discuss right away, we can, we can always gather information later. Also, growth should be fun, and we will work on ways for to find growth & increase joy into your life during these times.
