Please note - I do not prescribe any medications! Michael Awopileda, LCSW, CADC I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago's School of Social Work. My clinical training includes work in the psychiatry department at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and a specialized substance use practice, where I gained experience supporting individuals facing a wide range of mental health and addiction challenges. I currently work in a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program, where I help clients navigate complex mood and anxiety disorders. My areas of specialty include mood and anxiety disorders, substance use, and the intersection between the two. I bring a strong foundation in evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing, all while prioritizing warmth, authenticity, and collaboration in the therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a space where clients feel seen, safe, and empowered to make meaningful change. I believe healing happens when we feel connected—to ourselves, our values, and to others—and I’m honored to walk alongside people as they work toward growth, resilience, and greater self-understanding.

What should a new client know about working with you?

First and foremost, I approach therapy with a deep respect for your lived experience. I see my role as a collaborator—not an expert who has all the answers, but a partner in helping you uncover your own insight, strength, and direction. I strive to create a space that is warm, nonjudgmental, and grounded in genuine curiosity. You can expect our work together to be guided by your goals and paced according to your comfort. I value transparency and will regularly check in to make sure our work is feeling helpful and aligned with what you’re needing. My style is active and engaged—I’ll listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and offer evidence-based tools to help you understand your emotions, challenge unhelpful patterns, and move toward the life you want. I welcome feedback and always want therapy to feel collaborative and empowering.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Working with adults, I understand that life can be full of competing demands, shifting roles, and internal pressures that aren’t always easy to name—let alone navigate. My goal is to create a space where you can slow down, reflect, and explore what’s working and what’s not, all without judgment. In therapy with me, you can expect a collaborative and conversational approach. I bring clinical expertise and evidence-based tools, but I also believe that you are the expert on your life. We’ll work together to identify patterns, build insight, and create meaningful change—at a pace that feels manageable and grounded in your values. Whether you’re facing anxiety, burnout, relationship issues, or a sense of being stuck, I’ll meet you with curiosity, compassion, and honesty. I strive to make therapy a place where you can show up fully—however that looks—and feel both supported and challenged in your growth.
