Psychotherapist
FL
My name is Michael Cody, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I hold a Master's degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor's degree from Eckerd College. Since 2019, I have been working with children, teenagers, adults, couples, and elderly clients. My experience providing quality mental health therapy spans a variety of settings, including substance abuse treatment centers, the Department of Children and Families, the juvenile justice department, and community mental health agencies. This work has shown me how psychological illness can affect a diverse range of people, regardless of life circumstances. I have worked with clients experiencing severe symptoms of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, ADHD, anger, guilt, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, and family issues. Additionally, I have treated clients who have experienced sexual, physical, and emotional trauma. Before becoming a licensed mental health counselor, I spent two years as a child safety case manager at the Department of Children and Families, working with abused and neglected children who had been removed from their homes by the state and supporting efforts to reunite them with their families. I also have three years of experience in residential and outpatient substance abuse facilities, where I served in various roles including mental health technician, access center counselor, and residential counselor.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice is guided by the well-established psychological principle that the way we feel, largely arises from the way we think. I will teach you the A B C's of stress management and change dysfunctional thought patterns. By changing how we think, we can increase feelings of self-acceptance and overall life satisfaction while deepening understanding of your inner feelings.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The decision to begin therapy may appear overwhelming and the prospect of opening up to a stranger can be difficult. My highest priority is to provide a warm and comfortable environment, where you can express yourself without fear of being misunderstood. I applaud you for taking this first step and look forward to meeting with you.
