Dr. Michael Fiorini, PsyD

Psychotherapist
NY
I have over 12 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults of all ages in individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy. Clients see me for a wide range of issues. I have worked with challenges regarding identity development, relationship challenges, trauma, depression/anxiety, suicidality, self-harm, anger management, compulsive behaviors, and ADHD among many other things. I've also worked extensively in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC, and those dealing with systemic inequities and challenges. My perspective is mostly behavioral, relational, and humanistic. My therapeutic specialty is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with mindfulness and meditative practice also a major focus. Nevertheless, I believe in learning what works best for my clients and adapting my approach to best fit their needs. As a humanist, I firmly believe that within each of us is the innate ability to strive for and identify the things that bring us fulfillment in life. I see and practice therapy as a way to support my clients in the things that work well for the unique people they are as well as identify and adapt to the challenges they may face. Our identities, histories, cultures, experiences, and roles in life all provide us with important lessons from which we can learn and grow. These guide my approach and our work together. I also see our work as something which is, at its core, transformative. Though at times this can be challenging and difficult in order for it to be meaningful, I invite a spirit of openness, humility, and humor to our exploration. Though there are some circumstances that can affect us deeply and even at times make us feel powerless, I firmly believe and have seen firsthand that change and growth are always possible.
