Getting to know Michael Gomes

If anxiety is running your days, old trauma still lives in your body, or depression has narrowed what feels possible, you do not have to sort that out alone. I am Michael Gomes, a licensed clinical social worker (LICSW) with 30 years of professional experience. I see adults by video and am licensed in Massachusetts, Maryland, and Arizona. A particular focus of my practice is supporting people living with cancer—at diagnosis, through treatment, and in the years after. I also work with grief, trauma and abuse, men's issues, and the strain that family conflict, divorce, or family-of-origin wounds can place on an adult (in individual therapy; I do not provide couples or family sessions). When technology overuse or pornography has become a source of distress, we can talk about that plainly and without shame. How we work is practical and human. I use cognitive behavioral tools, mindfulness, and solution-focused and trauma-focused methods, along with client-centered, DBT, IPT, existential, and psychodynamic work—always in everyday language, at a pace that fits you. Sessions are individual or group, by video. A first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. We name what is happening, what you want to be different, and whether we are a good fit.
