Haney is a nationally recognized forensic and mental health consultant with decades of leadership in trauma-informed policy, emergency response, and child protection. His expertise spans child abuse investigations, child death review, crisis intervention, and disaster behavioral health, making him a trusted advisor to frontline professionals and vulnerable populations. Dr. Haney retired as Division Director for Prevention and Intervention at the Florida Department of Health, where he oversaw statewide Child Protection Teams and Sexual Abuse Treatment Programs. He also served as Clinical Director for the Florida Crisis Consortium within the Bureau of Emergency Preparedness and Response, coordinating behavioral health deployments during declared emergencies and developing peer-led response teams and training curricula as part of the Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8) team. His leadership extends nationally and locally. Dr. Haney is the former President and Executive Director of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) and currently serves as President- Emeritus of its Florida Chapter. He is an adjunct faculty member in the College of Social Work at Florida State University, where he taught courses on human behavior and crisis intervention. He also serves on the board of the Florida Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers. Dr. Haney began his emergency response career in 1987 as Clinical Director and Administrator for Mental Health Services in Putnam County, Florida, where he led emergency mental health services, consulted with the Sheriff’s Office, and trained with the Hostage Negotiation and SWAT Team. He received formal training in Critical Incident Stress Management in 1992.
