Psychotherapist
HI
Aloha, my name is Mike Kukahiwa-Haruno, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based on the beautiful island of Oahu. I work with individuals ages 5 to 25 and specialize in anxiety, stress, behavioral concerns, and LGBTQIA+ support. My inspiration for becoming a counselor comes from my wonderful siblings, who taught me the importance of support—something I hope to offer you. I earned my Master’s in Counseling from Chaminade University of Honolulu and hold a Bachelor’s degree from Menlo College. These educational experiences have shaped my approach to therapy, which is tailored to the unique needs of each client. I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, and Client-Centered Therapy modalities, as I believe they effectively support clients on their therapeutic journeys toward their goals. My style works particularly well with children and adolescents facing life transitions, peer or family difficulties, school challenges, anxiety, stress, and coping skill deficits. I also have experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community and find that my ability to relate to their experiences helps foster a successful therapeutic relationship. During sessions, I listen attentively and match my clients’ energy—whether calm and soothing or energetic and engaging. Therapy should meet the client’s needs, and I strive to create honest, supportive communication in every session. Growing up as the eldest of five children, I loved supporting my siblings and celebrating their successes. Their journeys inspired me, and I hope to make a similar positive impact on the clients I work with. I believe in a team approach led by my clients. Together, we navigate the path toward reaching their goals, with my role as a supportive guide along the way.
