Michael Sherman, LCSW, MSW

Psychotherapist
MA
Hi! My name is Mike and I bring over a decade of experience specifically in mental health. I have helped many individuals who needed support to work through symptoms related to depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and PTSD. I specialize in helping others heal from trauma in various forms, especially as it becomes more pervasive and acknowledged within our society. I strive to create a safe, affirmative space, and have a special interest in helping the LGBTQIA+ community. Laughter and good humor have always been important in my approach to life, and therapy, which is why I spend most of my free time with friends and family. I do pretty much anything that can get a laugh, including open mic/stand-up, video games, repeating quotes from The Simpsons, and running a comedy podcast with my wife (who is a therapist, too). Please note: I am accepting new patients for ongoing therapy sessions in Massachusetts. I do not provide medication management support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Specializing in trauma, I expanded my training by earning an additional certification as a Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I am clinically trained in several therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I graduated from University of Southern California with a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW). I hold full clinical social worker licenses (LCSW) in both Massachusetts and Utah.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first sessions, I take time to understand your personality, your goals, and the experiences that shape how you relate to yourself and others. From there, we collaborate on a personalized plan that may include CBT, DBT, EMDR, or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, all within a person-centered, trauma-informed approach. As we move forward, I help you process and heal from past trauma, strengthen emotional connection, and develop tools to support long-term well-being.

After scheduling your appointment, you will receive an email from Stella Mental Health containing your intake paperwork. Please allow about 30 minutes to complete this form. Your responses will help your provider prepare for your upcoming appointment. All patients are required to complete the intake form 24 business hours before their appointment. You will receive a phone call from one of our dedicated Care Advocates, who can answer any questions you may have. Please be prepared to provide a credit card to keep on file for co-pays or cancellation fees. Late cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full intake appointment fee ($292). During your intake appointment, you’ll spend 60 minutes with your provider collaborating on a treatment plan tailored to your needs. If in-person treatments are recommended—such as TMS, Spravato, DSR SGB, or ketamine therapy—our care team will guide you through the process and ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
