Getting to know Micheal Franklin

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of West Florida. I completed my internship at Sacred Heart Hospital. I have three teenage and adult children and am a direct type of person, shaped in part by my time in the United States Marines. I give my all in my sessions and expect my clients to complete their homework and come prepared with a topic to discuss. I grew up in the Foothills of North Carolina and had a happy childhood, though I always knew money was tight and that Mom and Dad worked hard to provide for our family’s needs. I am experienced in drug and alcohol substance abuse treatment, having worked in drug court and Intensive Outpatient Programs. Throughout my career, I have worked with adolescents and adults, including Veterans, spouses, and couples. My areas of expertise include men’s issues, personality disorders, addictions, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I am also a trauma-informed therapist trained in CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. One thing you can always count on is that "I will never leave you behind, as Marines never leave one of their own behind."

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am loyal, I believe in going above and beyond for my clients but never working harder than what they do as it comes down to accountability. I see the good in people and I want to improve their mental health and to help them to help themselves. I am a United States Marine and was serving when the Twin Towers got bombed in New York. I will never give up on you and I truly do care about my client's wellbeing and what goes on in their lives. I am a dog lover as I believe they are man's best friend. I believe that my clients can move forward with their lives and be healed from their past trauma's, from their anxiety, and depression, and to learn how to live their lives better than ever. I believe that they can do better and be better and that there is hope for sober living.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First, we do the intake and build rapport during the intake process. Second, we create a treatment plan and both of these things will happen in the first session. I stick with you until we get the full process completed and it might take more than the first session to get it all accomplished. Third, I will give you my feedback after everything is completed to make sure everything is heading in the right direction. I will give you homework at the end of each session and I expect you to come to the following session with things that you need to work on specifically and to be open to the treatment process. You have to be willing to work it in order to move forward with your life.
