Michele Neuhaus, LMHC, LCAT

Psychotherapist
NY
I’m a licensed psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and families navigate anxiety, emotional and behavioral challenges, trauma, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. I have specialized expertise in maternal and perinatal mental health, including pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, infertility, and the transition to parenthood. I also have extensive experience in infant, child, and adolescent mental health, supporting young people and their parents with anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, behavioral concerns, and family stress. I believe therapy should feel supportive, collaborative, and genuinely useful. My approach is warm and relational while also helping clients develop practical ways to understand their emotions, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful change. I tailor treatment to each individual or family rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I provide virtual therapy throughout New York State and welcome clients at different stages of life—from children and teens to adults navigating pregnancy, parenthood, relationships, and personal transitions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You don’t need to arrive at therapy knowing exactly what’s wrong or what you want to change. We’ll figure that out together. I work to create a space where you or your child can feel comfortable, understood, and never judged. I’m warm and supportive, but I’m also active in the therapy process—I’ll help you recognize patterns, understand what may be underneath difficult feelings or behaviors, and find strategies that make a difference outside of our sessions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first sessions focus on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy, what has been difficult, and what you would like to feel or experience differently. Together, we develop goals that are meaningful to you. From there, sessions are individualized and may include talking through current concerns, exploring patterns and relationships, building coping and emotional regulation skills, and practicing new ways of responding to challenges. When I work with children and adolescents, I involve parents when appropriate and use developmentally appropriate approaches to help young people feel comfortable engaging in therapy.
