Psychotherapist
UT
I am Michelle Bybee, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Utah. I have been a mental health counselor for 10 years, focusing on substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and co-occurring disorders. I earned my MEd in School Counseling from The University of West Alabama. My approach My therapeutic approach is person-centered. If CBT seems to be how a client learns and processes, then CBT modalities are used. I also like strength-based therapies and incorporate motivational interviewing and skills building, such as DBT. My focus My experience lies with late adolescents (16 years old) and older. I am comfortable treating mood disorders, substance use disorders, trauma, and anxiety disorders. My communication style I tend to follow the client's lead. In the beginning (the first few sessions), I use more solution-based interventions to get to know you. I am friendly, caring, some say funny, and I do my best to validate client experiences. My journey to mental healthcare As clich? as it is, I wanted to become a therapist to help people. When I was a preteen, I thought I wanted to be a children's therapist; however, my internship and years in education taught me otherwise. I landed in substance use disorder treatment out of the need for internship clinical hours and have loved helping that population. This passion encouraged me to pursue a doctorate degree in Addiction Psychology. My motivation comes from watching my clients reach their goals and make positive changes to live healthier lives. My goals for you I use the S.M.A.R.T. goal approach: Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. I also use scaling to understand the client's baseline and where they want to see themselves. My first session with you We'll have an open conversation about your life and set at least one goal. You can be as open as you'd like and are welcome to ask me any questions.
