“I cannot speak highly enough of Michelle! She has exceeded my expectations after multiple failed attempts to find just the right fit in a therapist. Michelle truly listens and has a knack for breaking down complex issues into bite-sized pieces to address. She is solution-oriented, and I love that she always has resources to share to assist with my journey between appointments. She is direct in a warm and caring manner and isn't afraid to challenge me to think from a different perspective, something I very much appreciate.”

Getting to know Michelle MacPherson

Hello! I'm Michelle MacPherson, a skilled and dedicated Psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience helping adults navigate life's most difficult transitions. Whether you're struggling with depression, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck, I'm here to help you restore balance and move toward a life of fulfillment. I strive to help you feel supported, understood, and empowered to make lasting changes. My approach is solution-focused and goal-oriented, compassionate and client-centered. I work with you in partnership to help you uncover solutions to your challenges so we don't get stuck on the problems themselves.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have more than 25 years of experience helping clients navigate the stressors of life, managing relationship stressors, navigating mood dysregulation and improving anxiety management. I specialize in working with adults over age 35 and am licensed in both CA and NC with additional certification in trauma-informed therapy. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing clients set meaningful, value-driven goals and achieving them. That's why I partner with you to ensure you are empowered to reach your full potential. As you work through life's transitions, I will be there to guide, encourage, and challenge you to push past obstacles and create the life you want

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our sessions will include a thorough exploration and assessment of your goals, psychoeducation to outline the science behind the therapeutic modalities we will use, collaboration in allowing you to choose an evidence based modality that most suits you, challenging questions to help you gain greater insight and awareness and homework assignments that will help you reach the goals identified during treatment. By focusing on the skills of distress tolerance, emotional regulation, mindfulness & interpersonal effectiveness, we can begin to feel more in control of our day to day responses to stressors. I provide sessions geared towards formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change. It helps you get "unstuck" and back in control!

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $175 for 60 minutes
Ongoing session: $175 for 60 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

More information on payments and coverage

Did you know your insurance might help cover the cost of therapy, even if I’m not in-network? Many plans offer out-of-network benefits, which means you could get reimbursed for a portion of each session. And you don’t have to figure this out on your own. I can check your benefits for you and let you know exactly what you’d pay per session before we even get started. If you have OON benefits, you may only owe a copay at each session instead of the full fee. Want to see what that looks like for you? Contact me and let’s see. For California residents, I am in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts, Cigna, Optum, Oxford United Health Care and offer a sliding scale for those seeking care without insurance. For North Carolina residents, I am in network with Aetna, Quest, Carelon, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna, as well as Optum, Oxford United Health Care

She listens, remembers, no judgment, honest with the right amount of reality check's, dependable, communicative, etc …. Everything you look for in a therapist.. I’m glad to have found her..
From the very first session, Michelle made me feel deeply seen, understood, and taken seriously. She is incredibly thoughtful, present, and intentional in how she listens and responds. What stood out most is how quickly she was able to connect patterns in my behavior and emotions in a way that felt validating rather than overwhelming - and then immediately offer practical, grounding tools I could actually use in real life. Her approach feels calm, structured, and supportive, with a strong focus on emotional regulation, self-awareness, and forward movement. I leave our sessions feeling more grounded, hopeful, and clear than I have in a long time. Michelle brings a level of experience, care, and insight that made me feel confident I’m finally in the right place and working with someone who TRULY understands what I need right now. I’m very grateful to be working with her.
I am so glad I found Michelle. Her experience is obvious and she provides REAL psychotherapy, attentive, informed, helpful and immediately started helping me with my stressors. She provides real solutions, using specific skills-based interventions.
I can’t say enough good things about my experience working with Michelle. She helped me shift the way I think and approach challenges in such a positive way. I came in struggling with negative thought patterns, and through her guidance and techniques, I learned how to manage them so much better in my day to day. She’s kind, understanding, and genuinely cares about helping her clients. I’m so grateful for everything she’s taught me, it’s made a real difference.

After searching for a therapist for quite some time, I finally found a gem in Michelle. She's personable, thoughtful and built connection with me. She also had a wealth of resources and always kept a focus on what would help me in any given moment. I trusted her and felt so much growth and clarity after each session. Anyone who works with Michelle I hope finds the same.
Michelle is absolutely amazing. She not only helped me in a time of crisis, but also has helped me grow so much since then. She ends sessions with clear steps and tools to use and always checks in on goals for the sessions before beginning. She is compassionate and kind while also being immensely respectful and helpful. Could not recommend her enough as a therapist.
I am so happy I found Michelle! I have worked with a few other therapists prior to finding her and feel that my therapy did not start until we met. She's understanding, goal oriented, professional, caring and extremely helpful! I highly recommend her! i look forward to our time together every week! She's the best therapist I have ever had!
