Psychotherapist
TX
I am a therapist who has also been through the process of finding and seeing therapists. I get it-it isn't easy, but it is worth it. Taking the first step to seek counseling can be a daunting experience. Rather than viewing the process as courageous, it is easy to become overwhelmed by uncertainties regarding the process, the relationship, and fears of being misunderstood or not finding the right fit. My view of counseling is simple and based on three core principles: authenticity (being true to oneself), honesty, and growth. I am passionate about creativity, music, and animals. I prefer to be direct and use humor constantly. I interweave these into sessions, and you will often see one of my pets in the session (they are bound to confidentiality too, don't worry!). I utilize EMDR in my sessions when appropriate and specialize in working with adults experiencing trauma-related distress, adverse childhood experiences, depression, boundary issues, and identity and sexuality concerns. I love working with the LGBTQIA population. I earned my MEd in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Texas, Brownsville, where I also completed my bachelor's degree.
