Getting to know Michelle Shegda

The provider is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor and Associate Marriage and Family Therapist currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. They are employed at Flourish Mindset Marriage & Family Therapy Inc. The provider holds a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University – Los Angeles, an EdM from Temple University, and a Bachelor's degree from LaSalle University. Working with me means stepping into a space where depth meets movement-where every part of you, no matter how fragmented or hidden, is welcomed with compassion and clarity. I work with individuals, couples, teens, and families to navigate the complexity of their emotional landscapes using evidence-based practices like The Gottman Method, CBT, and DBT, alongside the healing power of Internal Family Systems–Informed Therapy and somatic modalities such as yoga and mindful movement. I bring Flourish Mindset's values of curiosity and collaboration into every session. In my clinical practice, I'm deeply committed to decolonizing mental health by naming and addressing the systems that shape our suffering-white supremacy, capitalism, patriarchy, sexism, and body oppression. I help clients understand their symptoms not as personal failures, but as powerful survival responses to systemic harm. Through somatic therapy, yoga, and parts work (IFS), I support clients in reclaiming their bodies as sources of wisdom and resistance-not control.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My sessions are often described as both grounding and catalytic. I meet clients where they are, gently and skillfully guiding them through trauma, grief, body image struggles, and obsessive-compulsive patterns with both tenderness and structure. Whether you're working through the impact of sexual abuse, navigating a major life transition like menopause or recovery milestones, or rebuilding after addiction, I offer a steady, attuned presence to walk with you. My work resonates most with those craving depth and a nuanced understanding of identity, relationships, and resilience. I support clients in open or non-traditional relationship structures, those on the autism spectrum, and individuals who have been justice-impacted, with a trauma-informed and nonjudgmental approach that honors their lived experiences. I have a particular passion for working with high-achieving individuals who struggle with perfectionism, codependency, and attachment wounds—helping them understand how past dynamics still echo in the present. Whether we’re exploring eating disorders, sex therapy, or grief, my intention is always to help you reconnect with your body, your values, and your inner strength. I see therapy not just as a space for coping, but as a catalyst for authentic, embodied transformation.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is collaborative, personalized, and grounded in curiosity, safety, and structure. While every client’s journey is unique, here’s what you can typically expect when working with me: Initial Sessions: We'll begin by getting to know each other and identifying what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask about your history, current concerns, goals, and what has or hasn’t worked in the past. This helps us co-create a roadmap that feels aligned with your needs. Establishing Safety: I prioritize building a trusting, nonjudgmental relationship. Whether you're new to therapy or returning, we'll go at your pace, with plenty of room for feedback. What Sessions Feel Like: Some sessions are insight-based and reflective, others may include gentle somatic work or mindfulness. For couples and families, we focus on communication, emotional safety, and deepening connection using tools like the Gottman Method. A Space to Be You: Whether you're working through anxiety, attachment patterns, perfectionism, trauma, or identity exploration, each session is a space to be met exactly where you are—without pressure to “perform” or “fix” yourself. Ongoing Process Integration & Practice: Over time, we’ll move beyond symptom relief toward deeper integration—helping you reclaim energy, self-trust, and authenticity in your everyday life. I support you in applying what you’re learning in therapy to relationships, transitions, and challenges outside the room. Adaptable Support: Life evolves, and so does our work. I check in regularly to make sure our sessions remain relevant, impactful, and tailored to your growth. Ultimately, therapy with me is a space for deep connection—with yourself and others—where healing isn’t just possible, it’s expected
