Michelle Stern, NCC

Psychotherapist
NC
I am a trauma-focused therapist who works with adults struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and the lasting effects of past experiences. Many of my clients know they are safe in the present, yet their bodies continue to react as if they are not. This disconnect can leave people feeling stuck, frustrated, or disconnected from themselves and others. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed care and nervous system regulation. I use evidence-based methods such as EMDR, mindfulness, and collaborative talk therapy to help clients process unresolved trauma, build emotional stability, and develop a greater sense of safety and self-trust. Therapy is not about reliving the past, but about helping your body and mind learn that the danger has passed. I believe healing happens in a space that feels safe, respectful, and supportive. I meet clients where they are and tailor treatment to their unique experiences, values, and goals. For those who desire it, I offer care that is respectful of faith and meaning-based perspectives without pressure or judgment. My goal is to help clients move out of survival mode and into a more grounded, connected, and fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a calm, supportive, and trauma-informed approach. I work collaboratively and at a pace that feels safe, using EMDR, mindfulness, and talk therapy to help clients move out of survival mode and build greater emotional stability. Therapy is personalized, respectful, and focused on lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is designed to be straightforward and client-centered. It begins with an initial contact, and a consultation is available when helpful, though not always required. Once we determine that we are a good fit, we review out-of-pocket costs and insurance details if applicable. After completing a few brief electronic forms, we schedule your first session. Therapy sessions are typically held weekly or biweekly, depending on your needs and goals. Appointments are scheduled at times that are convenient for the client, and treatment is tailored to support steady, meaningful progress.
