Getting to know Michelle Venegoni-Vigil

I’m a neurodivergent, licensed therapist with over five years of experience providing therapy to individuals navigating anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, and major life transitions. I specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals, people living with chronic illness or disability, anyone struggling with executive dysfunction, and parents or caregivers of disabled or chronically ill loved ones. My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and client-centered, drawing from a variety of evidence-based techniques to meet each person’s unique needs. I strive to create a space where clients feel respected, understood, and not pressured to be “fixed.” Therapy with me focuses on helping clients better understand themselves, reduce overwhelm, and find more sustainable ways to cope with life’s demands. We move at a pace that honors your capacity, your nervous system, and your real-world circumstances. I earned my master’s degree in clinical social work from Southern Illinois University and continue to deepen my work through ongoing professional education. I aim to offer a calm, steady presence as clients navigate change and reconnect with what feels meaningful and true to them. If you’re feeling stuck, exhausted, or unsure of your next step, therapy can be a supportive place to start.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Michelle utilizes a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques. She collaborates with clients to develop individualized, evidence-based strategies that foster self-understanding, emotional resilience, and overall well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When you book a session, I’ll reach out with a brief phone call to go over logistics and make sure we’re a good fit. If we are, I’ll send the paperwork through Simple Practice. Our first session is about getting to know you—your story, your goals, and what brought you to therapy. We’ll focus on building trust and creating a safe space to share openly. From there, we’ll collaborate to identify what’s most important to you. I’ll help clarify challenges, highlight strengths, and set meaningful, realistic goals. Sessions typically include exploring experiences, learning practical coping tools, and reflecting on progress. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. My goal is to walk alongside you—offering support, insight, and strategies—while empowering you to create lasting change in your life.

Michelle has been an outstanding therapist who has transformed my life. I struggle with severe trust issues due to phobias, CPTSD, & etc, making it hard to share my trauma. The 1st session on, I felt safe & comfortable enough to open up. What sets her apart is her commitment to her work. She goes above & beyond to support me, never gaslighting & being honest about her knowledge. Whenever I have questions/concerns, she diligently seeks answers & is open to adjusting her approach based on feedback. Thanks to her guidance, I’ve emerged from the darkest depression I’ve faced. She has helped me process grief & establish healthy boundaries while addressing diverse personal & family issues. She has taught me to accept my diagnosis without letting it define me. Her focus on open communication allows me to express any grievance , & she addresses it immediately. If you need a therapist who genuinely cares, look no further. I’m grateful for her support & the lasting impact she’s made-
Michelle is the first Therapist I have seen that understood my Chronic pain and didn't gaslight me. She showed empathy and kindness and never tells me things are just in my head. She has helped me learn how to advocate for myself.

If you are a member of the trans community, a trauma survivor, or anyone who feels like they are carrying an impossible burden, please know that there are people who can help. Michelle is one of them. She is a beacon of hope, a skilled and trustworthy guide through the darkest of woods. Working with her has been the single greatest investment I have ever made in myself. It has not just been about managing symptoms; it has been a journey of coming home to myself, of reclaiming my narrative, and of learning that a joyful, peaceful life is not only possible, but is something I deserve. I am endlessly grateful for her, and I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Michelle provides a warm and affectionate presence that was needed during my time with her! I appreciate all of her advice and teaching me valuable skills! I highly recommend her if you are looking for a warm, kind, and loving presence!
I felt so lost and lonely for the last few years. Isolated even. Just felt like I didn't belong. I finally listened to a friend and started looking for someone to talk to. Michelle was the very first person I met in my mental health journey and has been a huge help in my life. As soon as she said hello to me I could already tell she understands. She sees me. Sometimes I think that is all we need. To feel seen and heard. I hadn't had that since before covid. I still struggle and things didn't change overnight, but without her I don't think anything would have changed at all. Thank you Michelle for helping guide me back to becoming whole again and I hope by me telling others of how you helped me, this in turn helps you.
I've been trying therapist off and on or 30 years. This is first time I stopped feeling accomplished. So any are pushy, judgmental, and don't care about what you actually need. Not once did Michelle do that. She helped with many things, but he important part was just listening and not forcing me to do things I didn't feel necessary. Thank you always Michelle.
I have known Michelle personally and professionally for many years. She has always shown compassion and understanding for everyone she has worked with. Michelle brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to her practice and always has the best interests of her patients at heart. I cannot recommend Michelle highly enough.
"I’ve been working with Michelle for several years, and she has been such an important part of my progress. She’s helped me navigate challenges with Autism, Anxiety, and past trauma in a way that feels both safe and supportive. Michelle is incredibly patient, compassionate, and thoughtful — she really takes the time to listen and provide practical guidance that makes a difference. I’m grateful for how much I’ve grown through our work together, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and dedicated therapist."
I saw Michelle for several months and really loved her. She truly cared about my success as a patient. She was the first therapist I stayed with. Sarah
