The provider is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern" in the state of Florida. Hi - I’m Mikayla, and I’m so glad you’re here. Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable and overwhelming, and I deeply value the courage it takes to begin the healing process. My goal is to create a supportive, authentic, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, emotions, relationships, and personal growth at their own pace. I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI) and Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (RMFTI) in the state of Florida. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Kent State University and continued on to complete my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Rollins College, where I also completed specialized training in Family and Relationship Therapy. My clinical experience includes working with adolescents, young adults, families, and individuals navigating concerns related to anxiety, trauma, identity development, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, life transitions, attachment wounds, grief, and self-esteem. Throughout my work in residential treatment and college counseling settings, I have utilized trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approaches to support clients in feeling empowered and understood. Outside of the therapy room, I am an avid yogi, dancer, and coffee connoisseur who deeply values creativity, movement, and mindfulness as forms of healing and self-expression. I have personally experienced the grounding and restorative impact that movement, music, and mindful presence can have on emotional wellbeing, which continues to influence the way I approach balance and self-care in my own life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to counseling is grounded in creating a strong foundation of trust, authenticity, and emotional safety within the therapeutic relationship. I believe healing happens most meaningfully when clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and accepted without judgment. In our first few sessions, I take time to understand your story, strengths, relationships, cultural experiences, and the challenges that have brought you to therapy. Together, we identify goals that feel realistic, collaborative, and aligned with your personal values and needs. I view people holistically and recognize that many emotional struggles are connected to life experiences, relationships, identity, and the stories we carry about ourselves. Therapy with me often includes exploring patterns, building emotional awareness, strengthening self-compassion, and developing practical coping strategies - while also making space for deeper reflection, insight, and healing. My goal is to create a collaborative space where you feel empowered to grow at your own pace.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I recognize that every person’s experiences, relationships, culture, and identity shape the way they move through the world, so I do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy. My counseling style is trauma-informed, person-centered, and integrative. I tailor sessions to each client’s unique needs and often incorporate approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative therapy, mindfulness, CBT, DBT-informed skills, and expressive or creative interventions when appropriate. While I provide empathy and emotional support, I also gently encourage insight, self-reflection, and growth. I believe people carry protective “parts” of themselves that have developed in response to pain, trauma, or difficult life experiences, and I approach those experiences with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment. My hope is that therapy feels like a space where you can process openly, strengthen coping skills, reconnect with your values, and move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
