Psychotherapist
31600 Telegraph Rd, Ste 280, Bingham Farms, MI
I’m Mike Shihadeh, MA, LPC, NCC, a Michigan therapist who works with adults and couples who want therapy to feel practical, honest, and actually useful. MY CLINICAL FOCUS is on relationship stress, couples counseling, premarital counseling, anxiety, adult ADHD, men’s mental health, communication issues, and life transitions. I also work with clients who want therapy to be culturally aware, identity-affirming, and respectful of faith, family background, and personal values. MY STYLE is warm, direct, and collaborative. I am not here to judge you, talk over you, or give generic advice that does not fit your life. I help clients slow things down, understand the patterns they keep getting stuck in, and build realistic tools they can use outside of session. FOR COUPLES, I often help partners identify the cycle underneath the conflict, improve communication, rebuild emotional safety, and talk about hard things without every conversation turning into the same fight. For individuals, I help clients better understand anxiety, avoidance, executive functioning, emotional patterns, relationships, and self-trust. I'm an eclectic clinician; the best modality for clients is whatever fits them best. I hold a specialty in CBT, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, Gottman-informed couples work, values-based reflection, and practical skill-building. Therapy with me is active, thoughtful, and human. My goal is to help you feel clearer, more grounded, and more capable of making meaningful changes in your relationships and daily life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a mix of insight, honest conversation, and practical next steps. You do not need to show up with the perfect words or a fully organized story. A lot of people start therapy knowing something feels off, but not knowing exactly how to explain it. That is okay. We will work together to make sense of what is happening and where you feel stuck. Clients often describe my style as calm, thoughtful, and direct. I will give you space to talk, but I also will not just sit silently the whole time. I ask questions, notice patterns, offer reflections, and help connect what is happening now to the larger themes in your life and relationships. I tend to work well with people who want therapy to be both emotionally meaningful and practical. That might mean learning how to communicate differently with your partner, understanding why anxiety keeps taking over, building better structure for ADHD, setting boundaries, processing resentment, or figuring out why the same relationship patterns keep repeating. My approach is collaborative. I will bring clinical knowledge, structure, and perspective, but you are the expert on your own life. We will move at a pace that feels respectful while still working toward real change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session will look a little different than later sessions. At the beginning, I am not only getting to know who you are right now; I am also trying to understand the version of you that came before this moment, the experiences, relationships, patterns, and choices that helped shape who you are today. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, your past experiences with mental health, what has been helpful, what has not, and what you hope our work together can change. You do not need to have all of that perfectly organized before we meet. We will make sense of it together. As therapy continues, our sessions may include learning new skills, practicing new strategies, reflecting on patterns, and finding ways to create a positive impact in your day-to-day life. Sometimes the work is practical and action-focused. Other times, we may need to slow down and unpack emotions, past experiences, or old ways of coping that still affect how you show up today. A big part of therapy is understanding the need, fear, or belief underneath the behaviors you want to change. When we understand what is driving a pattern, we can begin to work with it differently. Insight creates choice, and with more choice comes more autonomy in your life, relationships, and decisions.
