Milcah Valiente, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Milcah! My name is Milcah Valiente, and I am a licensed clinical social worker in both California and Nevada. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Denver. I have been trained in a variety of modalities and specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I consider myself a humanistic therapist, utilizing tools from various approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapies, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I feel comfortable working with a diverse clientele. Telehealth has afforded me the ability to see individuals across both Nevada and California. I enjoy working with adults through telehealth and children in person. My communication style depends on the symptomology and needs of each client. I like to provide a supportive and empathetic environment and use skills that help move the client's healing forward. I draw from tools such as nonviolent communication, Socratic questioning, and appreciative inquiry. Since childhood, I have been interested in people's stories-where they came from, who they were connected to, and what happened to them-which led me into mental health work. Within my clinical practice, I see myself as a holder of stories. Through listening and offering compassion while people tell their stories, I try to help them find hope and healing within the retelling. Goals are developed and created by the client. As their therapist, I help translate these goals into a SMART formula that can be broken down and used within the healing process. The first session is about getting to know one another and building trust. The client leads the discussion and tells their story. From there, we look at next steps and how to proceed on their healing journey.
