Getting to know Miles Ruttinger

When I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my two answers were neurosurgeon and therapist. I never had the aptitude or drive to become a surgeon, and I know why I wanted to be a therapist. Trauma is part of my lived history. I had a therapist when I was a child, and the only thing I could remember was feeling safe. She was older; I loved going to my sessions. Her office was the safest place for me at this time in my life. Here I learned to be resilient. After I left that therapist, I found ways to survive. One resource was my imagination. I loved Star Trek: The Next Generation; the characters provided me with specific resources, and I played out my life through Star Trek. Some of the best episodes for me were with my two favorite characters: Deanna Troi and Lieutenant Data. Data represented a protector, and Deanna provided secure attachment. I pretended I was rescued by Data, an orphaned child parented by Deanna Troi. This image helped me through an unhappy childhood until I could start reparenting myself. These examples of secure attachment are why I became a therapist. These early influences helped me look for adults who could provide the same example, and I found them among people my age surviving like I did. I imagined helping others move through trauma, hurt, and pain. I am a queer, transgender, and nonbinary individual with a non-traditional spiritual practice and a collaborative approach to therapy. Finding the right therapist is essential. Whether in rural areas or a big city, the therapy room is a space where clients don’t have to explain or educate a therapist about sexuality, open relationships, polyamory, BDSM, body size, disability, chronic health issues, oppression, or racism. You are valid. I believe everyone is an expert in their own life, and I am not an expert in yours. My goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care tailored to each individual's unique needs.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
