Miranda Hutchins, LAPC

Psychotherapist
PA
Miranda provides warm, collaborative therapy for adults and older adolescents who may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or unsure where to begin. She has a particular interest in working with veterans, service members, first responders, young adults, college students, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, academic stress, family concerns, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. As a U.S. Navy Reservist, Miranda brings firsthand familiarity with military culture and understands that asking for help can sometimes feel uncomfortable, especially for people who are used to pushing through stress on their own. She works to make therapy feel approachable, respectful, and conversational rather than overly clinical or rigid. Miranda primarily uses a person-centered and humanistic approach, while also incorporating CBT, DBT-informed skills, psychoeducation, emotional regulation strategies, and other techniques based on each client’s needs. She believes clients should have an active voice in their treatment and does not expect people to discuss difficult experiences before they feel ready. Her style is supportive, genuine, and flexible. Miranda may use humor when appropriate, help clients identify patterns that are contributing to current stress, and offer direct feedback when it can help someone move forward. Her goal is to create a space where clients feel understood as people, not defined by a diagnosis. Miranda is also pursuing doctoral training in clinical psychology and continues to expand her knowledge of trauma-focused treatment, emotional regulation, and evidence-informed therapeutic approaches.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is warm, conversational, and collaborative. I want sessions to feel like a genuine conversation rather than a clinical interview or a checklist of things you are expected to discuss. You will have an active role in deciding what we focus on and how quickly we move. I may ask questions, point out patterns, teach practical coping or emotional regulation skills, and offer direct feedback when I think it may be helpful. I also respect that some topics take time to feel comfortable discussing. You do not have to share every detail of a difficult experience before you are ready. I primarily use a person-centered and humanistic approach and may incorporate strategies from CBT, DBT-informed therapy, psychoeducation, and other evidence-informed techniques based on your goals and needs. I also believe therapy can be serious without feeling formal or intimidating. I use humor when appropriate and work to create a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself. My goal is to help you better understand what is contributing to your current stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, or other concerns while building practical tools that help you move forward. I see therapy as something we do together. You bring your experiences, goals, and understanding of your own life, and I help guide the process, identify patterns, and support meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me is conversational, collaborative, and focused on what feels most important to you that day. I do not believe therapy needs to follow a rigid script, but I also want our work together to have a clear purpose and direction. Early sessions usually focus on getting to know you, understanding what brought you to therapy, and identifying the areas of your life that feel most stressful or difficult right now. We will talk about your goals and what you hope will be different as therapy progresses. I also want to understand your strengths, relationships, routines, past experiences, and the things that have helped or made things harder. As we continue working together, sessions may include exploring patterns in thoughts, emotions, relationships, or behavior; discussing recent situations; building coping and emotional regulation skills; and looking more closely at experiences that may be contributing to current stress, anxiety, depression, or other concerns. I may use techniques from person-centered therapy, CBT, DBT-informed approaches, psychoeducation, and other evidence-informed methods depending on what fits your needs. I may also point out patterns or gently challenge you when I think something important is being avoided, while still respecting your pace and boundaries. I want therapy to feel useful rather than overwhelming. We will regularly check in about what is helping, what is not, and whether our focus needs to change. My goal is to create a process that feels supportive, practical, and individualized to you.
