Mitch Artman, LICSW

Psychotherapist
503 N 50th St, Seattle, WA
I became a therapist to help people suffer less and grow more. I have 14 years of experience in private practice, a mental health jail, a high-needs public clinic, and in people's homes. I have led therapy groups focusing on childhood trauma, men's groups, feeling safe in love, attachment, codependence, and spirituality. For my work, I was awarded Employee of the Year by LA County's Department of Mental Health. I supervise developing therapists and provide trainings on best clinical practices through public speaking and professional development. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of California, Los Angeles. Therapy is a journey that both honors and frees you from your pain. To feel your pain, you must let yourself into it. To experience its meaning, you must let yourself out. Our goal is not to get you back to who you were before your issues began, but to integrate the lessons life is offering you. We can discuss your life, patterns, trauma, dream interpretation, or what it is you and your life want from each other. I do best helping people become conscious of their patterns and, in so doing, change them.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I tend to become whatever the patient has not been to themselves: to the quiet, I am bold; to the bold, I am reflective; to the masculine, I am feminine; to the feminine, I am masculine. This is not a conscious decision, but the way the unconscious takes form in the dyad of therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I adopt a Jungian approach: What does your life want of you? Who do you need to become to resolve your pain? Is your pain asking you to become more conscious? I don't have a single method because every patient is singular. So that therapy is organic and alive, not rote or a technique. I deeply wish to know your belief-system: not necessarily of your spirituality, but what you think of the dialogue between you and your life.
