Psychotherapist
160 E 89th St, Ste 1B, New York, NY
I believe therapy is a space to slow down, better understand yourself, and create meaningful change. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in genuine curiosity. Together, we'll explore not only what's bringing you to therapy today, but also the experiences, relationships, and broader systems that have shaped how you move through the world. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, burnout, self-esteem, and the ways past experiences continue to influence how they relate to themselves and others. My goal is to help clients deepen their understanding of themselves, strengthen their relationships, and create lasting growth that feels authentic and meaningful.

Getting to know Mollie Rayner

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and I believe one of the most important parts of the process is finding someone with whom you feel comfortable. I strive to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are, without fear of judgment or pressure to have everything figured out. Clients often describe me as warm, thoughtful, and engaged. While insight and self-reflection are central to my work, I also believe therapy should lead to meaningful change outside the therapy room. Together, we'll explore the deeper patterns that influence your emotions, relationships, and ways of coping while integrating practical tools that support your everyday life. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel understood, challenged when appropriate, and empowered to move through life with greater self-awareness, flexibility, and self-trust.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions are an opportunity for us to get to know one another. I'll want to understand what brings you to therapy, what you're hoping to change, and the experiences and relationships that have shaped your life. Together, we'll identify goals that feel meaningful to you. My approach is integrative and grounded primarily in psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy. I'm interested in how unconscious patterns, core beliefs, relationships, and the broader social and cultural contexts we move through influence our emotional lives and sense of self. I incorporate mindfulness and body-based awareness to deepen self-understanding while drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) when behavioral strategies can help clients put insight into practice. Influenced by Jungian thought, I also value exploring identity, symbolism, and the search for meaning. Our work will evolve as therapy unfolds. At times we'll slow down to understand longstanding patterns and the meanings behind your experiences, while at other times we'll focus on navigating present challenges and applying new insights in everyday life.
