As a grief specialist, certified clinical trauma professional, and a certified provider for the National Institute of Digital Health and Wellness; Monica Avalos uses her expertise and counseling approaches to support females of all ages spanning high school age through menopause struggling with emotional regulation, the processing of loss/grief or difficulty with transitions stemming from relationships, developmental life changes or reproductive challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is client‐centered and rooted in research‐supported modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful-Based Stress Reduction Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution‐Focused approaches. I see myself as a facilitator — someone who walks alongside you as you reflect, accept, adjust, or create new ways of being. In our work together, you can expect to feel heard, seen, validated, and at times gently challenged in a safe, non‐judgmental space. My hope is that you receive from therapy a deeper understanding of the barriers contributing to your struggles and the tools to build a healthier, more fulfilling path forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In your first session, you can expect a safe, welcoming space to share your story. Together, we’ll begin clarifying what you hope to gain from therapy and identify the goals that feel most meaningful to you. We’ll also explore the approaches and strategies that may support you as you work toward those goals, so you leave the 1st session with a sense of direction and partnership. Follow up sessions will always include a check in, a review of goals or objectives, an assessment of progress or status in light of relative or recent events, and end with clear take aways and feedback.
