Getting to know Monica D. Mendoza

I often reflect back to the time when I decided to enter the field of psychology and counseling. Many life challenges along the way extended a hand in my decision to pursue a career in behavioral health. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Hawai?i Pacific University and went on to complete my Master's in Counseling at Wayland Baptist University. Over the past 21 years, I have grown as an effective clinician, learning that achieving holistic health and finding genuine fulfillment takes courage and requires commitment of the mind, body, and soul. Commitment to therapy as a pathway to optimal emotional health is not inconceivable, and it is a journey you do not have to walk alone. Being part of someone else's healing process, or ?search for meaning,? is an extraordinary experience and certainly a privilege.

What should a new client know about working with you?

"While learning more about the situation and symptoms is important in establishing direction as early on as possible, it is equally important during the first session to assure that comfort and trust are given the space to begin formation.  An initial emphasis is encouraged on setting one's own comfort pace in sharing.  Some people may be at a point where they truly need to get all the thoughts and emotions out without delay, while others may need to ease into it. There is no wrong answer there; the right answer is the one that feels right for you. As therapy enters the working phase, progress is often notable by the manageability factor; through reduction of discomfort, or distress; increase in functioning day to day.  We do not always see or feel progress unless there is a huge leap toward it, however, it is important that we listen and watch for the small and the big wins; we affirm the step forward; account, challenge, and adjust when we are stuck; check-in on your emotional responses and where your level of motivation stands.  It is essential to prioritize objectives to work toward and understand that therapy happens in the therapy sessions, but also largely when you are not sitting in therapy. "

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
