Monica Gonzalez, LPCC

Psychotherapist
OH
I have almost 20 years of experience working with youth and families in their homes, schools, and communities. I've also worked in inpatient and residential settings offering individual counseling, crisis support, and facilitating groups. Throughout my career, I've supported parents through managing parenting challenges and navigating their child's mental health difficulties. My treatment approaches include CBT, DBT-informed, trauma-informed, behavioral modification, family interventions, person-centered, and parent coaching among others. I hold an MSEd in Counseling from Youngstown State University. However, my main priority is to create a strong therapeutic relationship and then work together to find the interventions that best fit your situation, family, and lifestyle.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal as a counselor is to help you find your power in a non-judgmental, safe, and accepting space. Through our work together, I will offer you guidance and support to help you discover your own strengths and create a healthy and more fulfilling life. Whether that’s through creating healthier habits and behaviors, learning self-regulation, expanding your support system, or by identifying and challenging any self-limiting beliefs that limit you, I will meet you where you are and offer you a “perfection-free zone” while also challenging you to reach your fullest potential.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When I work with parents and families, I strive to meet you "where you are" while finding and maximizing your strengths as a family and making my interventions fit your lifestyle and family values. My main goal in working with families is to increase opportunities for connection, improve communication, and find more helpful patterns of interactions. When working with children and adolescents, I strive to provide an environment where they feel safe, free, and fully accepted for who they are. Our work together may focus on identifying and challenging unhealthy thought patterns, learning emotional self-regulation, improving social interactions, and/or adjusting unhelpful behavioral patterns.
