Hi there, I'm Monica! The first step I take when starting therapy is ensuring that the client understands this is their safe space and that they feel comfortable. My approach to therapy is eclectic, allowing me to assist clients with every area of their life that requires support. My main theoretical approaches include solution-focused brief therapy, person-centered therapy, cognitive therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I use these methods because once the problem is identified, we can start focusing on the solution. I work with clients who have depression, anxiety, work issues, couples' marital concerns, behavioral issues (kids to adults), PTSD, trauma, low self-esteem, anger management, and coping with life changes and family dynamics. I'm a straightforward therapist who communicates with a firm but soft tone. Based on client reviews, I always work hard as a team with my clients to find solutions that work for them. My approach always comes from a place of love. I decided to become a therapist because I enjoy talking to people, and throughout my life, people have often come to me to discuss their problems. When that happened, I realized I wanted to work with others to help them overcome situations where they needed assistance. I love being a therapist because I get to see the positive changes people make. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Southern University and A&M College. The goals we set depend on what you are striving to achieve. Once we discuss your goals, we work on setting up SMART goals-specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. During your first session, you should expect to feel comfortable discussing your reasons for attending therapy.
