Getting to know Monica Marchant-Silva

I am the proud daughter of immigrants from "Mexico Lindo y Querido" who raised me in the Northside of Chicago. Although born in the U.S., my roots come from Latino culture and traditions. As a child, I struggled as many minorities do. Being primarily a Spanish speaker, language was a challenge, especially in education, with limited community resources. Being Latina has driven me to share and live the beliefs and values central to Latino culture. I earned my Bachelor's from the University of Illinois and my Master's in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Chicago. When asked why I chose to be a therapist, I believe our profession chooses us. I've always had a deep interest in hearing others' stories and understanding their feelings and actions. I wanted to work in a field where I could help people and make a difference. I've fulfilled this passion through various roles as a social worker. I worked with survivors and perpetrators of domestic violence at Mujeres Latinas en Acci?n and Apnar Ghar. I supported abused children and parents who have abused. As a foster case manager, I worked with foster parents and relatives caring for these children. I have been a bilingual licensed clinical social worker for seven years, starting at the nonprofit Pillar, then at the group private practice Centro Castillo. After a year as a stay-at-home mom, I opened Mental Ease Services, PLLC. Being a therapist is my passion. I strive to provide those struggling and in emotional pain a space to be heard, supported, and validated.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer and provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental therapeutic space. I specialize in treating anxiety, bipolar disorder, and depression. I provide the support and guidance you may need to address the issues you’re struggling with.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first session/appointment I will conduct an initial assessment and together we will work on goal setting. This is where I gather information about yourself, to help me better understand you. Think of it like a puzzle, I need to put the puzzle together so I can see the whole picture. The following sessions/appointments consist of 60 min where we fill focus on working towards your goals. I incorporate CBT, ACT, and mindfulness to help you meet your goals. Within these modalities, I at times use journaling, and workbooks to help you get a better understanding on what we are working on. Please be mindful that our sessions will not always be this structured, as life happens, so sometimes we will be using talk therapy to process and discuss any life issues that might be going on at that particular part of your life. At the end of the day I am here to listen and to meet you where you are at.
