Monica Parham Andrade, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York, working with adolescents, adults, and high-functioning professionals. I bring an integrative, evidence-based approach, drawing from CBT, schema therapy, and relationally informed practices to help clients navigate anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and relational challenges. Over the course of my career, I’ve supported diverse populations in both clinical and research settings, which has strengthened my understanding of how trauma, systemic pressures, and cultural context shape mental health. I aim to create a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free space where clients can explore patterns, uncover underlying needs, and develop practical strategies to move forward. My goal is to help you feel understood, empowered, and equipped to make meaningful changes in your life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in early literacy research at a clinic that provided comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations and educational advocacy to primarily underprivileged people of color in Washington Heights. I was born and raised in the South Bronx and completed my master’s degree in mental health counseling at Fordham University. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from New York University, where my passion for advocating for others and working with diverse populations first emerged. When I’m not at SelfWorks, I can be found binging Star Wars and spending time with loved ones.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work begins with building trust and establishing a collaborative, safe space where you feel heard and understood. Early sessions focus on identifying patterns that may be contributing to the challenges you’re facing. Change is introduced gradually through thought exercises, boundary and expectation setting, and honoring your feelings, always at a pace that feels manageable for you. Insight and action don’t always occur simultaneously, so we also problem-solve and address barriers as they arise in a nonjudgmental way. My goal is to help you gain clarity, build self-awareness, and develop practical strategies that feel authentic and sustainable, while navigating challenges with support and flexibility.
