Monique Hickmon, AMFT

Monique Hickmon, AMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My journey to becoming a therapist began in college as I became fascinated with human behavior. Coupled with firsthand experience in seeing the profound effect that mental health struggles can have on a person's life, I wanted to become someone who could offer support and guidance during difficult times. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University, which equipped me with the knowledge and skills to effectively assist individuals and families. I am privileged to help people discover their strength, resilience, and potential. Monique Hickmon is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. She is employed by Foresight Mental Health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I know therapy can be challenging and even scary at times, however, I will make sure to listen attentively to everything you share, without judgement. I will give you the space to express yourself fully and reflect back what I hear so you know I understand your thoughts and feelings. I will also ask questions to help you explore your experiences in more depth and check in with you to make sure I am grasping what you are going through. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel valued.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Building a therapeutic relationship with me is a process that takes time and is based on trust, respect and open communication. It starts with you feeling safe and comfortable to share your thoughts and emotions. We will collaborate on setting goals for our work together and I will support you through that journey at your pace. Lastly, I will have a non-judgmental attitude to ensure a space where you feel free from judgement.
