Morgan Peterson, MSW, LCSW

Psychotherapist
IL
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I support teens, adults, and older adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, stress, and life transitions. Whether you’re overwhelmed, feeling stuck, or navigating major change, therapy can offer a grounded, supportive space to reconnect with yourself and explore new ways forward. My style is laid-back, honest, and collaborative. I tailor my approach to your needs and draw from a variety of methods including EMDR, mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS-informed), somatic and narrative therapy, and Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP). We might use creative exercises, guided imagery, structured tools, or simply reflect, depending on what’s most helpful for you. I believe therapy should feel like a conversation, not a diagnosis. Together, we’ll explore what’s getting in the way of the life you want, build insight, and create room for meaningful change. If you're looking for a therapist who is real, grounded, and engaged, I’d be honored to work with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means you’ll be met with warmth, honesty, and a steady presence, not judgment or rigid structure. I show up as a real person, not a blank slate, and therapy with me often includes humor, reflection, and moments of relief, even when we’re digging into tough stuff. My style is client-led and flexible. Some people want structure, strategies, and goals. Others need space to slow down, feel safe, and explore without pressure. I’ll check in with you regularly about what’s working or not so we can adjust as we go. I also gently challenge patterns that might be keeping you stuck, always with respect and curiosity. You don’t have to have the “right words” when you show up. It’s okay to say “I don’t know.” You don’t have to be in crisis to seek support. We’ll figure it out together, one step at a time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions are about building connection and getting a sense of what’s bringing you in, no pressure to tell your whole story at once. We’ll explore what’s going on in your life, what you’re hoping for, and what kind of support feels most useful. I might offer exercises, reflective questions, or strategies depending on your needs. We may talk about boundaries, nervous system regulation, family patterns, self-criticism, or emotional overwhelm — but always at your pace. I often integrate body-based tools (like breathwork or grounding), parts work (IFS-informed), and EMDR when appropriate. Over time, we’ll revisit your goals and adjust our focus as life unfolds. I hold space for complexity and growth, not perfection. This is your space, and I’ll support you in using it in the way that feels most empowering.
