Getting to know Moroni Alvarez
Hi, I have lived in the great state of Utah for the past 25 years. Before that, I spent 5 years in Hawaii and 22 years in my motherland, Tahiti, in French Polynesia. I am a non-judgmental, trauma-informed Psychotherapist and Marriage/Family Therapist with over 23 years of clinical experience working in private practice, various residential treatment settings, and currently at an outpatient treatment clinic. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Brigham Young University. I have learned much from working in these different settings and have had the pleasure of working with clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds. My work focuses on helping individuals, couples, and families resolve emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges, cope with stressful circumstances, and navigate difficult life transitions. I have been married for 28 years and am the lucky father of three beautiful children, inside and out. Some of my favorite activities include listening to music, gardening, learning about earth and natural buildings, studying psychology, writing poetry, being outdoors, exploring recent and ancient history, learning about cultures, watching movies, studying healing arts and martial arts, and cooking.

When I'm sad it helps to talk things through and separate myself from my feelings. I am trying to remember I am not my feelings. I am me. Next week I will feel differently. It's OK to feel sad right now. I can endure my lows as much as I celebrate my high moments.

Honestly, looking to keep myself grounded. My new beau and I are very caught up in each other, and we both have children we NEED to keep at the center of our focus. Definitely helps to talk to my therapist about what our conversations are like, and to have an external perspective towards how our emotional regulation is going. Obviously, I think there are definitely times I have to reground myself. I think I am the driving force for the pace of my relationship. When I need him to be, my Beau is good to follow my lead and slow down. I am grateful for my therapist though. He keeps me more objective.

This week the take away is finding gratitude in everything. Seriously, I love this as a way to defeat the anxiety I am experiencing. What better way to defeat anxiety and despair than with gratitude for everything I have. I am grateful for lawyers, therapists, my kids, my siblings. I am grateful for my friends. I am grateful for the life I have.

I have benefited greatly from just the 2 sessions that I have had with being able to work through areas that were hard for me to navigate before therapy. It has also helped me to approach issues in a healthier direction.
