Born in India and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, I am an immigrant who grew up toggling between cultures and identities. I get it. I grew up feeling alone due to limited supports (single parent household), lacking authentic family presence, judgment from my community because I was not raised “traditionally”. I really felt ashamed for many years and it showed up consistently throughout my childhood and most of my adult life. I really never knew where I belonged. Was I and Indian immigrant or was I American? the bicultural straddle was and is lifelong. I couldn’t fit into the “model minority” myth and didn’t find myself being accepted as being “Indian” either. Training our mind in a collaborative space can help you gain back your authentic self. The parts of us that got lost somewhere in our developmental stages of life. Women like us have to navigate so many roles and identities and it feels like a juggling act. Never feeling good enough, trying to fit some type of label and checking off those boxes.
