Psychotherapist
2024 Williamsbridge Rd, Bronx, NY
I'm Nadia, a Yemeni-American, Muslim therapist who was born and raised in New York City. I often say I was shaped by the complexity of this city itself. I grew up moving through its systems and watching how differently those systems can treat people depending on their language, culture, family structure, immigration status, or access to resources. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating trauma and complex psychosocial stressors. My experience spans public health and hospital systems, humanitarian and refugee resettlement, social justice programming, child welfare, higher education, research, and policy. As a Cabrini Fellow, I have worked alongside nurses and other social workers on the front lines committed to shaping healthier communities. At 22, I was one of the inaugural founders of the first Social Justice and Equity Center at CUNY. The settings have been different but the one thing that has stayed consistent across all of them is people trying to survive systems that were intimidating or simply not built with them in mind.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Human beings are inherently contradictory. You can be grateful and angry at the same time and love your family deeply but still need distance from them. You can bring your whole self into the room with me with all the confusion, anger, and exhaustion. My approach is client-centered, relational, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive because culture, faith, family, immigration, and identity are not side conversations to be left outside the therapy room. I draw from interpersonal and psychodynamic frameworks, as well as Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT, and ACT, tailoring therapy to each individual that honors them.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You don't have to immediately tell a stranger the most painful thing that has ever happened to you. A lot of therapy begins with figuring out whether you feel comfortable enough to be honest in the room at all. That's a perfectly good place to start.
