Getting to know Natalie Renteria

I am a Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP) fluent in English and Spanish with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from The City College of New York. As a queer, first-generation Afro-Latina, I bring an intersectional perspective to therapy, honoring how culture, identity, and lived experience shape the way we move through the world. My approach is holistic and integrative, blending Mindfulness-Based Approaches, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Culturally Responsive Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Somatic/Body-Based Approaches, Client-Centered/Person-Centered Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I adapt these methods to fit each client’s needs, always centering your goals and lived experiences. I specialize in supporting clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, life transitions, and relational concerns. Whether you are seeking tools to manage stress, healing from painful experiences, or a deeper sense of authenticity, I am committed to providing a supportive, affirming space. Together, we will work toward cultivating resilience, uncovering strengths, and building the skills needed to live a more balanced and fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often describe my style as warm, affirming, and collaborative. I aim to create a space where you feel comfortable being your authentic self while also receiving gentle guidance and practical tools to support growth. My role is not to be the expert in your life, but to walk alongside you, offering insight and strategies tailored to your needs. New clients can expect sessions that balance exploration and skill-building—time to reflect on experiences, while also practicing coping strategies you can apply day to day. Above all, I strive to provide a nonjudgmental, culturally affirming environment where you feel supported, understood, and empowered to take steps toward your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first sessions, I take time to understand your story—what brought you to therapy, the challenges you’re facing, and the goals you want to achieve. From there, we work together to create a plan that feels supportive and realistic, focusing on both immediate needs and long-term growth. A typical session may include processing current stressors, exploring patterns in your thoughts and emotions, and practicing new coping skills. Depending on your goals, I may integrate mindfulness, grounding techniques, or structured strategies from Solution-Focused Therapy, ACT, or somatic approaches to help regulate the body. At the same time, we may gently explore deeper issues such as trauma, identity, or relationships, always at your pace. Throughout therapy, I regularly check in to track your progress and adapt our work. My process is flexible: some sessions may focus on practical tools, while others dive into self-reflection and exploration. Over time, the goal is for you to feel more resilient, grounded, and confident in navigating life’s challenges.

Natalie is an exceptional therapist. This has been my first experience with therapy, and Natalie is a thoughtful mental health provider who truly takes the time to ask the right questions and create a calm, non-judgmental, and emotionally safe and supportive environment. Highly recommend her services, especially for creatives who are juggling life + their artistic practice!
Natalie has such a warm and kind presence, that is felt even through the phone and in distance. When I work with her, I feel held, understood, and safe to be me. I don't always feel comfortable sharing about my past experiences with other therapists or practitioners, but within minutes of our first session, I was able to say things I've never said to anyone. Even if I have feelings of shame about my current circumstances, that all melts away when I hear Natalie's voice. I have seen clear results and confidence emerge after just a few times working with her. I would recommend her to anyone who is on a healing journey and needs someone to walk beside you through the storms. Natalie is a light and I am so grateful for her support.
Natalie is a warm, attentive, and highly thoughtful. She has a calm presence that helps you feel comfortable and supported exploring difficult emotions and experiences.
I’ve been seeing Natalie for the past few months, and she is a phenomenal therapist. She is empathetic, warm, and very welcoming. Natalie truly values the therapeutic process and approaches it with great care, which I deeply appreciate. She works with me at my own pace and creates a safe space to navigate difficult and sensitive issues. I highly recommend booking with her; she’s kind, supportive, and genuinely wants to help.
Natalie's approach to nurturing delicate moments session to session allows for the space to grow and her eagerness to help her clients shines every time.
I've been seeing Natalie once a week, for a little over a month now. From the first session, she was immediately warm and welcoming. I appreciate the care and time she took to understand my history and my hopes for therapy with her. Natalie asks insightful questions that have allowed me to go deeper, and I feel comfortable sharing the hard things, and also laughing with her when the subject warrants it. I even enjoy the "homework" she gives me, which helps me to continue and think more on what we've discussed during the week. I look forward to continuing our time together and learning more ways to take care of myself and grow.
i love natalie! she’s always on time, very warm and always listens to me without judgement. i highly recommend booking with her :)
Natalie is truly a gem of a therapist. She seamlessly balances a calming, welcoming presence with sharp, insightful wisdom. Through her guidance, I've been able to detangle unhealthy thought patterns that I was stuck in. I always feel safe with her and through that safety I have been able to share things with her I never did with past therapists. She is compassionate, intuitive, and creative. I am so thankful she is my therapist and I consider her a true blessing.
