Getting to know Natasha Muriuki

I'm a firm believer that therapy works best when clients are treated as the experts on their own lives. Rather than focusing solely on diagnoses or symptoms, I take a collaborative, trauma-informed approach that helps people understand their experiences with curiosity, compassion, and respect. I have experience working with adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma, as well as adults navigating substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Having worked in intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), residential, and outpatient settings, I understand that healing looks different for everyone. I integrate evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy to create treatment that is tailored to each person's unique needs, strengths, and goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you choose to work with me, you can expect a space where you don't have to have everything figured out before you walk in. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable being honest—even about the things that feel difficult, confusing, or overwhelming. I believe many of the ways we cope today developed for a reason, and before trying to change patterns, it's important to understand where they came from. Together, we'll explore your experiences at a pace that feels manageable, identify what's no longer serving you, and build practical tools that support the life you want to create. My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental, and I strive to help clients feel seen as whole people rather than defined by their struggles.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions are focused on getting to know you—not just the challenges that brought you to therapy, but your strengths, relationships, history, and goals. We'll work together to identify what you'd like to gain from therapy and create a plan that feels meaningful to you. As therapy progresses, I tailor sessions to your individual needs by drawing from CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed approaches. Some sessions may focus on developing practical coping skills, while others may explore deeper patterns, emotions, and past experiences that continue to impact your present. Throughout the process, I aim to create a supportive space where you feel safe to be yourself, build insight, and make lasting, sustainable changes.
