Getting to know Nathaniel Bush

Nathaniel (Nate) Bush, LCSW, joined Cornerstone Healing Center in July 2021, bringing nearly a decade of experience in behavioral health treatment. His own recovery journey began in 2010 when he went through treatment and found himself deeply impacted by the experience. It was there that he realized his calling—to help others escape the hopelessness of addiction and find a path to healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients can expect a compassionate, direct, and collaborative approach to treatment. I believe in meeting people exactly where they are—without judgment—and creating a space where they feel safe, understood, and supported. My work is rooted in both professional experience and personal recovery, which allows me to connect deeply with individuals navigating addiction, mental health challenges, and co-occurring disorders. I focus on helping clients build practical coping tools, emotional resilience, and long-term stability. I provide care both in person and through secure virtual sessions, offering flexibility while maintaining a high level of clinical support and accountability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand each client’s history, current challenges, strengths, and goals. From there, we collaborate on an individualized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. Depending on the appropriate level of care, clients may participate in Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), or outpatient services. Sessions may include individual therapy, group therapy, family involvement, and evidence-based interventions designed to address both substance use and underlying mental health concerns. Throughout the process, I prioritize measurable progress, consistent communication, and ongoing plan adjustments to ensure clients are moving toward sustainable recovery. Both in-person and virtual treatment options are available to ensure accessibility and continuity of care.

They asked a couple questions and then recommended "intensive outpatient" even though I said I was coming for maintenance. They said I had to commit to 3 hours 3 times a week in groups. They recommended this almost immediately so I assume they do this for everyone. Was looking forward to therapy now have to wait another week. Time wasted, they could have noted this in advance. This is a common scam among practitioners unfortunately

I didn't see anything about being seen by a clinical team before seeing the doc. I was surprised and though the intake coordinator was informative about their offerings, the info on the docs page seemed misleading. You will be seen only by an intake coordinator the first visit, who will then recommend group and solo sessions, or try to place you elsewhere that provides the level of care being sought

I always felt truly heard and cared about with Nate. He listened without judgment and gave me hope. He encouraged me every step of the way and believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself. He would challenge my thinking in ways that helped me grow. I’m a better person today because of his support and guidance.
If you want to grow and thrive by "shedding skin", take a gander at the person in the mirror when you use their services because your mindset and perspective may transform.
