“This is more a general feedback than an evaluation of my last appointment. I chose 10 for recommendation however the truth is I have no reason to not recommend Nathan in general but I do not want to give the impression I would refer anyone to anyone else just because I know them. Is this question page anything more than lazy advertising gimmick? I would talk to both Nathan and the friend or colleague first before making an opinion and the friend or colleague having talked with me first is assumed in your question so I would probably just mention something to Nathan next time we got together. I believe the best outcome is a good fit and I am always being asked my opinion on one thing or another and putting people in touch with each other. No matter how many times other people tell you what is on the other side of the hill you never really know what is on the other side of the hill until you go there. Every journey, no matter how short or long, begins with the first step and continues one small, insignificant step at a time. My adventure with Nathan has been forward moving, interesting and productive with no eventual destination even planned yet. I hope this helps.”

“Nathan is the best and I’m so grateful that I found him. He is kind, open-minded, a great listener, intelligent, compassionate, and even more amazing qualities than I could ever list. I’ve seen many therapists over the years and none of them even came close in comparison to Nathan. His therapy sessions have changed my life and I wouldn’t be able to be the person that I am today without his help and dedication!”

Getting to know Nathaniel Powers

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Georgia and completed my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Valdosta State University in Georgia. At this moment, I live in Palm Coast, Florida, with my wife and our German shepherd and Maine coon cat. My wife and I both graduated from the same master’s program, almost at the same time, and we’ve continued to learn from and adapt to life’s challenges and victories. I have experienced a plethora of struggle and pain and have found a purposeful place in my heart for joining others in working through their pain. I have always had a deep appreciation for nature and for being a part of the natural world, and have sought much of my own healing through interacting with the world we were all born into. Living ten minutes from the beach means I am able to fish quite often, and I employ this hobby to interact with the natural world in a meaningful and challenging manner. I have learned about as much about life through fishing as anything else. I continue to learn—about myself, about people, and about the fish I cannot see but know are there. Much like those elusive fish that we go after, the hopes, dreams, and nightmares that we carry inside us make the ocean of the Self—the calm winds, slow rolling waves, and the squalls and tempests all have their places inside of us. It is the navigation of these things that makes all the difference. As a therapist, I seek to illuminate the way that has been hidden beneath the waves—to navigate paths unknown, abandoned, or newly discovered.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in addiction and trauma recovery and believe in utilizing the client's own sense of Self in a creative and 'always new' perspective to establish a sense of purposeful adventure and meaningful exploration during sessions. I will work with you to understand and change deeply-rooted beliefs arising from early trauma resulting in suppressed and repressed emotions and memories. I am trained in EMDR, a technique for treating trauma that can help unlock and process emotions that are often not accessible through traditional talk therapy. I will work with you to incorporate new revelations and changes into life in a functional way.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
